Mine was a cute girl colleague and when I showed her a photo of the NASA flyby of Jupiter, she chirped up with "oh I don't believe any planets are round". Oh well, good while it lasted.

I get all the comments saying everyone can have their own opinion and you shouldn’t avoid some one completely when he/she thinks different than you. And I agree, but if it’s about something so important, something that affects every human, animal and plant on this planet, you should try and explain it to him so he knows that by avoiding certain things (palm oil, flying, excessive consumption of meat etc.) he can slow down the process and preserve the earth for a little while longer. I would never argue with someone about their belief or their sexual preferences or any thing like that because that (normally) doesn’t have an impact on anyone else. But thinking that we can keep on living the same way we have been for the last 50-100 years and doing so affects ... everyone

When you consider that 90% of Americans believe in some sort of god / higher power, 75% of them try and communicate with their god and 33% of them claim that God talks back to them - based on heresay and texts written by man - it's not surprising that the vast campaign of misinformation and denial by the ten trillion dollars a year fossil fuel industry often persuades the gullible. And with the dunning kruger effect and motivated inference it's hard to persuade them otherwise.

I have an American colleague... He is a young earth creationists catholic (apparently they exist) who don't believe in climate change, evolution or vaccination. He claims that the Democrats are communists, he can't ask women for help and he keeps calling me Sir, even though he is at least 15 years older then me. I try to ignore him.

Then teach him, take the time to collect the facts. If you get along, he might be a reasonable person and listen to what you have to say. And if he still Don't, then Nothing is wrong with people having different opinions. I am a muslim and I work with christians, jews, even a atheist with the pure fedora look, and we get along very well.
